This story consists of 3 parts because I’ve released three games:

In the previous part, I told you how I came to the development of the hexagonal turn-based game Beasts Battle and how the expenses on Necromancer Returns didn’t pay off.

False start

Necromancer Returns was released in February 2018, but it didn’t fit my expectations, so I got depressed. But in April 2018 an idea popped up in my head: to make the next game based on the same engine, but with graphics drawn in 3D and rendered to 2D isometry.

The idea was to quickly create a new world, draw it, add new units and that’s all. I got in touch with a guy who joined the team at the end of Necromancer Returns development and became the main artist for the game. He redrew the entire interface for the mobile version of Necromancer Returns and also updated it on Steam. …

In 2015, while working in the office and alongside doing my own job, I was developing games with an artist. It happened that by selling the game, I earned the 2-year salary I was getting in the office those days. The artist and I decided to move to Kaliningrad and to start developing custom games. Everything went perfectly: we did one game every 2–3 months and earned good money. I was saving money to get an apartment — I wanted to buy it in cash without a mortgage. But then the Flash died, and the prices for HTML5 games fell by 5–10 times. …

I should say, I am a fan of Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM) and King’s Bounty series. I’ve played almost all parts and addons — except HoMM7 because time goes by, life changes, and there’s no time left for playing games.

I got acquainted with the HoMM series in the early 2000s — it was HoMM3 I played at school. When I got into university, I started skipping classes to play Heroes with my friends on a single computer. …
